• Corner Brook is the first city on the Earth Summit 2012 pan-Canadian tour. Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland, will be the only stop in Newfoundland and Labrador on Jan. 30 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the GCSU Foodcourt. Youth leaders and sustainability veterans will bring the community together to discuss the role of youth and civic engagement in democracy in the context of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Earth Summit 2012, Rio+20), and to take transformative actions. • On Feb. 11, Newman Sound Men’s Choir will don our tuxedos for our fifth annual Love Songs For Seniors. Throughout the day, we will perform free concerts at three seniors’ homes to celebrate Valentine’s Day. In lieu of concert tickets, Newman Sound is seeking pledges of any amount to support this performance and our other artistic endeavours throughout the year. Newman Sound is a registered charity and will be issuing tax receipts for amounts of $20 and higher. Performances are scheduled as follows 11 a.m at the Admirals’ Coast Retirement Centre, Kelligrews, 1 p.m. at the Caribou Veterans’ Pavilion, Miller Centre and 2:30 p.m. at  St. Luke’s Home.
