Local musicians will take part in a Canada-wide arts festival next weekend, taking place in 15 cities simultaneously.

Mark Bragg, Katie Baggs and Maria & Charlie will play at the LSPU Hall’s Cox and Palmer Second Space as part of Elsethings, a festival co-ordinated by new artist-run music label Cabin Songs.

“We’re trying to bridge the gap between disparate Canadian communities,” said Tyler Butler of Cabin Songs in a written statement.

“Our mandate is to create a network of artists for artists from coast to coast.”

The Elsethings festival was inspired by “Elsethings,” a new record by Halifax-based musicians Nick Everett and Everybody, released on the Cabin Songs label.

The record includes songs written and recorded across the country.

For the festival, happening Jan. 19, 70 artists will perform on stages from Victoria to St. John’s.

The local event is being curated by singer-songwriter and 2012 MusicNL nominee Joanna Barker.

Admission is $10 and doors open at 7:30 p.m., with the show starting at 8 p.m.
