Grammy award-winning artist Art Garfunkel will be in St. John's for one show only on April 9, 2010, at Mile One Centre.
According to a news release, Garfunkel was described by the New York Times as a "beautiful countertenor," and has made an indelible mark on the music world, both as a solo artist and half of the group Simon & Garfunkel.
Garfunkel's most recent solo album, "Some Enchanted Evening," was released in January 2007 on Atco Records.
Garfunkel was originally revered for his Grammy-winning, chart-topping songs and albums with partner and fellow New York City native Paul Simon.

If you're only gonna get half of the singing duo, you're better off gettin' the other fella.

While everyone is entitled to their own opinion. In addition, his music style is not my particular taste, but I would just like to ask everyone who is against Mr. Garfunkel,
What grammy's did you win?
How many albums have you sold?
What year were you inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame?
Oh yeah,
None
Zero
Never.
I thought so. -

After reading all of these negative comments - ten out of 12 anyway, it makes me wonder if Newfoundlanders have ANY taste of appreciation for music? Additionally, if a follower of the music scene rates an artist on their number of Grammys, they are blinding themselves! For example, there have been alot of successful and talented acts around for a number of years who haven't won a Grammy: Diana Ross, Bryan Ferry, Paul MacCartney, etc...

people here are so negative, look around. You live in Newfoundland, This isn't California, Hell this isn't even BC (otherwise I could pay less for pot and afford this concert) Expect what you are Newfoundlanders, washed up, forgotten and on the fringe.
Now if only we could get some metal bands at Mile One. Besides Art Garfunkle is a great musician even if he isn't no Paul Simon. -

Nate...you might be the most negative person in NL, and I am wlling to bet you have little talent to speak of....that writing comments on various articles is the best part of your day. Sad...very sad....Let's see you bring in an act ... it takes a lot of balls to take such a risk... something you should do yourself before casting stones at anyone else.

I for one would love to see Art Garfunkel, and so I'll be buying a ticket for the show. If you don't like him, it's quite simple don't buy a ticket.
Alot of the reason we don't get the big acts is because it's just too expensive to bring them here.
If you could do better, take a gamble and go ahead! -

AND Mile One at that. You'd be lucky to fill The Arts and Culture Center with this guy. Man, you've dug past the bottom of the barrel and are now in the dirt for this one.

For those of you who percieve that Mr. Garfunkel was the lesser half. I would advise you to listen closely to all their tracks and apart from the quality of the songs themselves the defining aspect is the beautiful harmonies of Art Garfunkel. Listen to Bridge over Troubled Waters...do you hear Paul Simon...NO.
Do yourselves a favor and listen to his first solo album after they split up -

To be fair we should compare apples to apples here.
The Halifax Metro Center can be converted into a much smaller venue, just like Mile One, and that is the case for Art Garfunkle in Halifax. 3 thousand tickets are available.
For those critics of Mile One and comparisons to halifax, it is important to take in the logistics and expense of the geographic considerations for a band to play in newfoundland will bring.
Acts with their own staging, lights and sound require their tractor trailers to come over on that bloody boat, drive across the Province, set up, play, tear down and drive back and get on that boat again. Technical crews and trucks can expect to need at least 3 additional days added to their schedules to play here.
That's 3 days of expenses and salaries to play 1 show.
It is because of geography.
Halifax gets Keith Urban, the Stones, KISS cetera because a band can get in and out easily and efficiently, something the Atlantic Ocean does not offer us.
Some people joked about Roger Hodgson playing at Mile One. It was one of the best shows to ever play there and it did sell out. -

I saw Art Garfunkel in concert a couple of years ago and before going, I wasn't expecting much. BUT what an amazing show it turned out out to be. His voice is incredible and when he hit the climax to Bridge Over Trouble Water, all 9,000 people in attendence gasped. Until that show, I never realised just how much his voice meant to Paul Simon.
Any moron out there who calls this guy a has been and says he wouldn't sell out the Arts, is just that a moron without a clue. By the way, he's also playing at the 10,000 seat Halifax Metro Centre,
Yeah, some has been alright.
Thanks Leo! -

I would go see Art Garfunkel before Paul Simon any day. Just because Paul Simon was better known to the ordinary masses such as many of you who commented above, does not mean Art Garfunkel doesn't have a big following of his own. The beautful vocals in many of the hits from Simon & Garfunkel were in fact from Art Garfunkel. And really you know, if you don't want to go see him, then don't. Why bother to comment at all? To each his own.
And I agree with Nasty Nate...what a concert that would be...Sonny Bono...back from the dead! :) -
