Acura's second-generation 2013 RDX compact crossover sport utility vehicle first debuted in prototype form at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this past January. With a base manufacturer's suggested retail price of $40,990, the production version is now available in Acura dealerships across the country.

"The 2013 Acura RDX is improved in just about every way and embodies much of Acura's future direction - beautiful timeless design, luxury detail and the technology that customers expect," said Alexandre Roger, vice president of Acura Canada. "It's more powerful, roomier, quieter and has improved fuel efficiency. In short, it's everything we know customers in the luxury SUV market expect and more."

For 2013, the RDX boasts a redesigned and more aerodynamically efficient exterior, amplitude reactive dampers and a new electronic power steering system. Power is supplied by a 3.5-litre V6 engine that generates a stout 273 horsepower; 33 more than the first-generation model. A new 6-speed automatic transmission comes paired to the engine and routes power to a new on-demand all-wheel-drive system.

The interior comes standard with such features as leather seating, power actuated heated front seats, a 360-watt audio system and a power moonroof. Other standard interior features include a keyless access system with pushbutton start, SMS text messaging, active noise control and a rear-view camera system with three viewing angles.

Though it starts at a base MSRP of $40,990, the RDX can also be had with a Technology Package which is listed at an MSRP of $43,990. The Technology Package adds such gadgets as a 10-speaker surround premium sound system, DVD-audio, a navigation system with bi-lingual voice recognition, a 60 gigabyte hard disk drive, GPS-linked solar-sensing dual-zone climate control, a power actuated rear tailgate and more.

Now available in Canada, the second-generation 2013 Acura RDX will compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLK, Audi Q5 and BMW X3.
