We don't care why automakers release their big secrets prior to their moment under the lights on the show stand stage, but we never complain.  No doubt Bentley feels its new 2011 Continental Supersports Convertible will get more press if it gets the news out now rather than get lost amid the Geneva auto show press days mayhem.

If you had to guess, the Continental Supersports Convertible is to the Continental Supersports hardtop what the GTC Speed is to the GT Speed, or for that matter the regular (if you can call anything with a twin-turbocharged 552hp W12 regular) Continental GTC is to the Continental GT.  It also supplants the GTC Speed as the quickest four-seat convertible available and the fastest convertible in Bentley's history.

As with the Continental Supersports hardtop, the Supersports Convertible gets Bentley's twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 rated at 621hp and 590 pound-feet of torque.  This engine can run on gasoline or, better yet, E85, while still capable of sprinting to 100 km/h in just over 4 seconds and reaching a top speed of 325 km/h (202 mph) on either fuel type.

Other Supersports coupe features that find their way over to the topless version include 20-inch 10-spoke rims on Pirelli 275/35Z R20 shoes, necessary to maintain control at speed.

The deleted rear seats don't carryover, mind you, with four seats remaining, although those chairs include lightweight carbon fibre construction that matches the Continental Supersports Convertible's carbon fibre trim.  The seats sport grippy Alcantara inserts.

The Continental Supersports Convertible goes on sale this summer.
