In anticipation of its world debut, Chevrolet has been steadily releasing images of its 2013 Malibu sedan. The car will be unveiled April 18th at 8:30 p.m. eastern time on the company's Facebook page, and on the 19th at the 2011 Auto Shanghai, in China. The new Malibu will also be unveiled at the New York International Auto Show on the 23rd of April.

Why has Chevrolet decided to give its new sedan such global publicity? Simple, the car has been engineered to appeal to customers not just in North America, but in markets throughout the world.

"This Malibu takes Chevrolet's established and award-winning nameplate to new places and introduces it to new audiences around the world," said Vice President of Chevrolet, Rick Scheidt. "Whether the Malibu is sold in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, or Australia, it has been engineered from the ground up to meet the needs of customers around the world."

Chevrolet says the Malibu will be outfitted with fuel-efficient, but powerful four-cylinder engines as well as six-speed transmissions, which are fast becoming an expectation amongst new car buyers. Chevrolet has not yet released any other information in regard to the powertrain of the new Malibu, but that and more is expected to be revealed come the night of the 18th.

The new images reveal a front-end design that looks similar to the current Malibu, although slight styling revisions like Camaro-inspired taillights help differentiate the new car from the current one. Interior shots reveal a flip-up infotainment screen on the centre of the dashboard.

The Malibu was Chevrolet's best-selling car in the United States in 2010, with nearly 200,000 units sold. Since 2008, the Malibu has earned over forty industry awards and is one of the most decorated vehicles that Chevrolet makes.

As mentioned earlier, the 2013 Malibu will first be unveiled at 8:30 p.m. eastern time on April 18th on Chevrolet's Facebook page. Visit http://www.facebook.com/chevrolet to find out more. Apple iPad and iPhone users can also stream the event from their mobile devices, and questions about the car can be posted to Twitter using #MalibuReveal. Expect full details of the car after its online debut on the 18th.
