When Chevrolet's fifth-generation Camaro debuted in 2007's Transformers, the car became an instant hit. The trend continued in 2009 with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in which the Camaro returned as the lovable Autobot "Bumblebee." This summer, Transformers: Dark of the Moon will hit cinemas all over the world, and many of those fans will soon be able to take Bumblebee home with them, sort of.
In celebration of the latest Transformers movie, Chevrolet will offer a 2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro Coupe to customers in the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, the Middle East, South America and China.

"The Transformers franchise has helped introduce Camaro – and Chevrolet – to a whole new generation of fans," said Rick Scheidt, Vice President of Chevrolet Marketing. "Its role in the films helped make the Camaro the best-selling sports car in America, and one of the best-known cars of any kind around the world."

According to Chevrolet, the Camaro dethroned the Ford Mustang in 2010 to become the leader of the U.S. sports car market for the first time in 24 years. This year Chevrolet says it has sold 40,275 Camaros in comparison to Ford's Mustang, which sold 30,206. The Camaro will become even more competitive with the Mustang early next year when the 550 horsepower 2012 Camaro ZL1 debuts.

Chevrolet will offer the 2012 Transformers Special Edition as a $3,000 option package available for Rally Yellow 2LT and 2SS Camaros. The package includes an RS appearance package, black rally stripes, a rear spoiler, massive 20-inch wheels with high-performance summer tires, and Autobot logos on the wheel centre caps and front quarter panels. The Bumblebee treatment continues on the inside with a black leather interior, yellow stitching, and, of course, embroidered Autobot logos on the front seat headrests and the centre console.

If the standard features of the 2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro Coupe package aren't nearly enough, gigantic 21-inch wheels and a black ground-effects package are available as dealer-installed options.

The 2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro Coupe will be available for order in July and will reach U.S. and Canadian dealers this September. To sentimental consumers, the 2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro is more than meets the eye. In fact, it could even be said that the unique package helps to maximize the appeal of the Camaro thus far. One thing's for sure though, come September the Camaro's popularity will surge once that familiar command is given, "Autobots, roll out!"
