Cobra, one of the most trusted names in radar detectors, has just launched a new model that is specifically designed to pair with the iPhone via Bluetooth.

"The Cobra iRadar Detection System is truly revolutionary," said Sally Washlow, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Cobra Electronics. "It pairs Cobra's industry-leading radar/laser detection technology with iPhone's exceptional display and GPS capabilities to create a truly new standard for detection systems. What makes using Cobra's iRadar system so remarkable is that it not only provides drivers an unprecedented amount of crucial information, it does so with clarity and convenience."

Cobra iRadar is not all that different from a regular radar detector, other than it's smaller and arguably better looking. In fact, even if you don't have an iPhone it will work independently, but its real purpose is to pair with Apple's popular smart phone and, by using the iPhone's built-in GPS system, alert you of "all radar and laser guns on the market" with full 360-degree protection, plus known speed and red light cameras, speed traps and dangerous intersections. And all information automatically updates.

Cobra launched a GPS-enhanced radar detector two months ago, a trend that also saw Escort introduce one shortly thereafter, but by pairing with the iPhone you'll get a lower price at $169.95 USD at the Cobra store (, and a much better full-colour display.
