Ford's F-150 SVT Raptor is the kind of vehicle that puts a smile on the faces of automotive enthusiasts. Based off of Ford's venerable F-150 pickup truck, the Raptor was designed for even greater off-road prowess when it arrived in late 2009 as a 2010 model. Now, approximately three years later, Ford has added a few upgrades that make it an even more capable prospect for 4x4 driving enthusiasts.

Apart from available high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights, the SVT Raptor can also be had with beadlock wheels for 2013. Unlike conventional wheels, beadlocks lock the vehicle's tires to the outer rim of the wheel, ensuring they don't roll off when the tire is underinflated during off-road driving.

Although both the HID headlights and the beadlock wheels are options, Ford's 2013 SVT Raptor comes standard with Hill Descent Control, internal triple-bypass FOX Racing Shox dampers and skid plates.

Under the hood, the Raptor's 6.2-litre V8 engine churns out 411 horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque and comes mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The standard four-wheel drive system features a front axle-mounted Torsen differential with 4.10 to 1 gearing, while the rear axle also features 4.10 to 1 gearing with its electronic-locking differential.

Inside, the 2013 SVT Raptor boasts Ford's SYNC with MyFord Touch communications and entertainment system, which allows for both voice-activated and touch-screen control. The Raptor's MyFord Touch system makes use of an available eight-inch touch-screen that is also used by the vehicle's voice-activated navigation system. A 4.2-inch screen mounted in the instrument cluster includes menus for gauge setup, a trip computer, towing and off-road applications, plus fuel economy. The 2013 SVT Raptor also features front- and rear-view cameras for improved driver visibility.

Though it currently has few true competitors, Ford shows that it remains committed to its SVT Raptor by upgrading it for 2013.
