So, what exactly does Ford need to do to make what is arguably the market's coolest pickup truck even cooler? That question was answered in the form of the 2014 F-150 SVT Raptor Special Edition, an even more enticing version of its much-lauded race truck replica.

The biggest news is what won't be: there won't be any increase in performance from its 6.2-litre V8 engine, which now makes 411-horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque, while its long list of 4x4-ready features remains the same too, including its Torsen limited-slip differential, industry exclusive internal triple-bypass FOX Racing Shox dampers, skid plates, and beadlock-capable wheels on all-terrain tires. So what's changed?

The new 2014 F-150 SVT Raptor Special Edition is all about the show, with new Ruby Red Metallic exterior paint, unique box-side graphics, special Brick Red seat bolsters with black inserts and unique cloth honeycomb upholstery accents enhancing the already nicely equipped standard Luxury package, plus a custom console top finish panel and centre stack and door panel appliqué highlights. The Raptor Special Edition can also be had in Tuxedo Black Metallic.

"Raptor owners are looking for a high-performing, uncompromising off-road pickup truck with the features and luxuries found in today's premium trucks," said Doug Scott, truck group marketing manager, Ford Motor Company. "Since its launch in 2009, we've continually moved Raptor forward in capability and design, and the 2014 Special Edition is the best Raptor yet."

Before you decide whether or not such a small number of changes are worthy of Special Edition status take a look at the photos, as this is one eye-catching off-roader.
