Hyundai isn't shy about its intentions to move its brand upmarket. Its Genesis Coupe and Sedan have been big sellers and more recent Equus full-size four-door luxury flagship is changing perceptions about the once economy-minded builder. Value for money remains its raison d'etre, which is why its luxury and performance models have been so well received. What will they do next?

The South Korean brand introduced a four-door luxury coupe concept dubbed HCD-14 Genesis at Detroit's North American International Auto Show in January, causing many to question if that was the next-generation Genesis Sedan in prototype guise, and if such is indeed the case what we're looking at here, ahead of the Seoul Motor Show may just be a future Genesis Coupe.

Remove some of the show car goodies like Lamborghini-style scissor doors and the HND-9 luxury sports coupe concept would be a nice addition to Hyundai's global showroom. Like the Genesis Coupe the HND-9 drives the rear wheels via V6 power, albeit the prototype's mill is 3.3 litres in displacement and good for 365-horsepower thanks to direct-injection and turbocharging. It's mated to a state-of-the-art eight-speed automatic gearbox that should allow for responsive performance and optimal fuel economy.

The HND-9 Concept will debut at the Seoul Motor Show on March 28, at which point we'll know more details.
