Have you ever noticed yourself picking up tempo behind the wheel when your music speeds up? A Belgian non-profit organization named OVK, which stands for Parents of Children Killed in Road Accidents, has created an iPhone app dubbed "Slow Down" for overzealous drivers whose throttle gets pressed harder as their music moves them more.

The app, available for free on Apple's iTunes store or via download directly to your iPhone, keeps track of local speed limits and, if you exceed them, will literally slow your music down (which could be kind of fun all on its own). If you press your pedal to the metal (Metallica or Cannibal Corpse, anyone?) and exceed 16 kilometers (10 miles per hour) over the limit, your music will completely shut off. Slow down and it will automatically restart where it left off.

Being a self-regulating system it probably won't work for your teenage son or daughter when out with friends, but you might find this safety app will save you a speeding ticket or two.
