Is the Soul about to get much sportier? Or does Kia have something altogether new up its sleeve? Either way, the concept it's about to reveal at the Geneva auto show in March should be a bona fide head turner, as some very clear teaser images attest.

Kia's press release calls it a "provocative and racy new urban concept" featuring "the company's signature tiger-nose morphing into a mischievous yet friendly grille and headlight arrangement, coupled with strong styling lines that exude speed and energy from every angle."

The two-door compact crossover looks ready to do battle with Nissan's unorthodox Juke, although it'll need a transformation to four doors to be a true competitor against that Japanese sport ute. Whether Kia is targeting the Juke, preparing something in a completely different vein, or merely playing with our collective sense of speculation by teasing something that will never see the light of day, this latest design exercise shows the importance of compact crossover utilities in any automaker's lineup, and a willingness to delve into niche market segments to attract new buyers.

We'll know more details in March when this urban concept arrives on Kia's Geneva show stand.
