The LF-Gh concept car marks a significant step forward for vehicle design from Lexus. In fact, the new concept has been developed in order to showcase what a future Lexus grand touring sedan could look like, and the LF-Gh's design themes could even influence the styling of future Lexus vehicles.

"Customers have been waiting for a bold concept like this from Lexus," said Lexus Division group Vice President and General Manager Mark Templin. "We look forward to their feedback and integrating some of these exciting design features into future Lexus vehicles."

That feedback will come quickly, as the LF-Gh is set for a global debut at the New York International Auto Show, which runs from April 22nd to May 1st.

In terms of its styling, the LF-Gh really is a bold concept. The front bodywork is especially eye-catching because of all the visual drama. Those darkened headlights with their recessed triple projectors and underlay of LEDs give the car a piercing gaze. Then there's the prominent grille, which Lexus says is spindle-shaped. It immediately draws in attention with its sheer size and the big, shiny "L" badge mounted up high. A casual glance at the front end of the LF-Gh can easily turn into a prolonged stare.

While Lexus-like, the slab-sided appearance and cab-rearward layout of the LF-Gh also resembles the previous generation BMW 5 Series. Then again, overall design details pulled from the brand's LFA supercar are distinctive enough to set it apart from its midsize premium rivals.

The concept car features a hybrid powertrain as denoted by the "h" in the name LF-Gh. Despite this, Lexus hasn't released any information on the details of the hybrid powertrain; so strong is the focus on styling.

General Manager of Lexus Design Division and Toyota Motor Corporation Kengo Matsumoto had the following to say of the new LF-Gh: "The captivating design of the LF-Gh concept examines the possibility of balancing what are normally opposing qualities, such as style and functionality. Although only a concept, we hope the LF-Gh will resonate with our customers worldwide, and communicate our intention to once again advance ideas about the face of Lexus luxury in the years to come."
