Though the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton has now passed, another Royal Wedding is just days away. The marriage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco to Ms. Charlene Wittstock is planned for the 2nd of July and a custom Lexus LS 600h L Landaulet hybrid has been chosen as the official chauffeur car.

"Lexus is very proud to present this exceptional full hybrid vehicle to H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince of Monaco," said Andy Pfeiffenberger, Vice President of Lexus Europe. "Our commitment to innovation and sustainable mobility at Lexus matches well with His Serene Highness' keen interest in promoting sustainable development and environmental protection."

A landaulet is a unique style of automobile that features a convertible roof for the rear seats while the front seats are either roofed or open. Belgian coachbuilder Carat Duchatelet constructed the Lexus LS 600h L Landaulet hybrid in collaboration with Lexus engineers. The bespoke Lexus was completed in Brussels after more than 2,000 hours of work. It features a roof made of polycarbonate, which measures just 8 mm (0.3 inches) in thickness; the whole thing weighs in at 26 kg (57 lbs).

"We have 40 years experience in making armoured and extended vehicles for Heads of State, Royal Families and VVIPs around the world," said Benoit Ceulemans, Executive Director Corporate Development, Carat Duchatelet. "However, this will be a milestone project for us. It is the first time we are publicly associated to such a prestigious project and memorable event."

The royal couple will be chauffeured through the Principality of Monaco including the Palace on the Rocher, Boulevard Albert I, and Sainte-Devote Church. Lexus says the LS 600h L Landaulet will function with electric power for most of the tour. At the end of the wedding celebrations, the unique Lexus will be on display at the Media Centre for the wedding and then the Oceanographic Museum.

Though Prince Albert II and Ms. Wittstock surely could have chosen from a long list of large and lavish wedding cars, its nice to see that they have chosen a more environmentally conscious vehicle for their big day. Congratulations to the soon to be newlyweds.
