In the world of sport utility vehicles, the Lexus LX 570 remains one of the true full-size entries, an immense vehicle with seating for no less than eight occupants. Originally introduced in 1996 as a mid-size vehicle, the LX has grown in size to the current generation, which debuted back in 2007. For the 2013 model year, Lexus has updated the LX 570 with a number of interior and exterior revisions.

For 2013, the LX 570 sports a new Lexus spindle grille, indicators on the side mirrors, revised front and rear bumpers, new LED daytime running lights and new fog light bezels. Additionally, the 2013 LX 570 rides on new split five-spoke "Liquid Graphite" finish 20-inch alloy wheels.

Although the interior was already well appointed, Lexus has added a 120-volt power outlet to the middle row of seats and has improved front seat cooling. There's also mahogany wood trim throughout the cabin.

The LX 570 can be had in two new exterior colours for 2013: Medium Nebula Gray Pearl and Satin Cashmere Metallic. Inside, the Cashmere leather option has been replaced with Parchment leather.

As its name implies, the LX 570 is powered by a 5.7-litre engine. The big V8 churns out 383 horsepower and 403 pound-feet of torque and comes mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The LX 570 has a prodigious 3,175 kg (7,000 pound) towing capability and comes equipped with four-wheel drive, vehicle stability control, active height control, crawl control, adaptive variable suspension and hill-start assist control, all of which combine to make traversing rugged terrain easier.

Safety features for the 2013 LX 570 include multi-terrain anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist. There are also 10 standard airbags, which include front and second-row seat-mounted side airbags in the outboard seating positions, driver- and front-passenger knee airbags and roll-sensing side curtain airbags that cover all three rows.

Though ruggedness and safety are both important aspects of modern premium sport utility vehicles, it's the cosseting luxury that completes the package. The LX 570 pampers its occupants with such features as a nine-speaker Lexus Premium Sound system with iPod connectivity, USB plug and HD radio. A 19-speaker Mark Levinson Reference Surround Sound system is also available - it features 450-watts of power and 15 channels.

For rear seat passengers, Lexus has garnished the LX 570 with a dual screen entertainment system complete with wireless headphones. Other convenient features include a Lexus navigation system, rearview camera and four-zone independent climate control.

With its updated appearance and slew of luxury and safety features, the 2013 Lexus remains an attractive choice for consumers in search of a premium full-size sport utility vehicle.
