Want to let your friends and family know where you are? If you're driving a new Ford or Lincoln product with the automaker's Sync connectivity system you'll be able to do that easier than ever now that the Glympse location-sharing application has been added to Sync's menu of handy applications.

After downloading the Glympse app to your iOS or Android-based smartphone and adding the phone contacts you want the new application to connect with, simply connect your phone to Sync's AppLink system via Bluetooth or USB and say "Send Glympse" after you've pressed the Sync button on the steering wheel. Your vehicle's location will automatically be sent to everyone on your Glympse list, an ideal way to get your friends to meet up with you in front of a restaurant or bar before going in, a shopping centre parking lot, a park, or even keep tabs on you while driving. Employers and parents might find this application especially useful, too. As Ford says, even answering the question "Where are you?" has now become a lot simpler.

"People typically share their location while in the car, and by integrating Glympse into Ford SYNC AppLink, we're providing drivers with a rich, real-time and hands-free way to share where they are," said Bryan Trussel, co-founder and CEO of Glympse. "At Glympse, we're dedicated to creating a more robust connected car experience, and working with Ford will help us to reach millions of consumers who will be able to just say, 'Send a Glympse' to share their current whereabouts, eliminating the need to send a text or make a phone call."

Glympse is becoming more popular, with users now called "Glympsers" and the act of sending out or receiving locations dubbed "glympsing," and like any new application every glympse you send can also be updated through Facebook, Twitter, text or even email.

"Glympse is a great example of how smartphone app integration with the car can help us make the driving experience more convenient for our customers, thus adding perceived value to their vehicle," said Julius Marchwicki, Ford SYNC AppLink program manager. "By teaming up with an innovative company like Glympse, we are providing our customers with a dynamic way to share their location while removing the need to take their eyes off the road or hands off the steering wheel to pick up their smartphone."

While Glympse first made headlines as part of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class' suite of tech features, the software company's new tie-in with Ford is a much bigger deal that should help it grow a larger following. Of course, Ford wins by making the latest tech available to its millions of Sync customers, and by making those who don't have a car with an integrated Sync connectivity system want to trade up to a new Ford or Lincoln model that does.
