The British automaker celebrated the announcement at California's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, where McLaren's MP4-12C supercar made its North American debut last year.

Where the McLaren F1 made use of a BMW V-12 engine, the MP4-12C was the first production car to be designed and manufactured entirely by McLaren Automotive. The features a mid-mounted twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 engine that produces approximately 590 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and the car has a top speed of nearly 330 km/h. McLaren's MP4-12C competes primarily with Ferrari's 458 Italia. To its credit, the McLaren generates more power and torque than the Ferrari and also weighs less.

"It was a pleasure to meet some of the first 12C customers in North America at Pebble Beach," said   Paul Mackenzie, Program Director at McLaren Automotive. "For nearly twenty years we have been closely managing relationships with owners of the McLaren F1, and understanding their needs is a great foundation on which to launch a service that will now include 12C customers."

In order to showcase what the Special Operations team is capable of, McLaren displayed a bespoke MP4-12C at Pebble Beach. The car featured satin matte Volcano Orange paintwork, a gloss black roof, louvers on the front fenders, diamond cut finish wheels, and even a carbon steering wheel. "McLaren Automotive already offers 12C customers extensive options to personalize their car. However we recognize some owners have specific tastes and we have the knowledge and capability to design, engineer and produce almost anything a customer may desire for their 12C," added Mackenzie.
