Suzuki will begin airing a new ad campaign on Christmas day worthy of its subject matter, the award-winning new Kizashi midsize sedan. The ads, which will probably make you laugh, show the Kizashi going head to head in performance tests with some extremely unlikely competitors.

The first puts it up against the Audi A4, well out of its league in price and prestige, but nevertheless the Japanese four-door beats the German sedan in braking, cornering and quietness tests. The third competitor is a motorized sofa, which, humorously, loses by crashing through the braking test barriers. The second ad shows the Kizashi pitted against the Volvo S40 and a guy wearing a bubble-wrap suit, while the third and final installment features a Mercedes-Benz C300 and a stretch limo. The three ads and information about the car can be found at, a new micro-site.

Suzuki is smart to be challenging much pricier cars in its new ad Kizashi campaign, but more so vehicles that it doesn't directly compete with. This has nothing to do with the car's ability to outperform its mainstream midsize rivals, such as the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord in handling and braking tests, but more so that these competitors, and pretty well every other one, outperform the Kizashi on the sales charts due to the very capable Suzuki not even registering on their shopping lists. Suzuki's problem is that it hasn't sold a midsize four-door since the 2006 model year when it dropped its Korean-made Verona, and that rebadged Daewoo really didn't fit in with the brand's performance-oriented DNA. Now the automaker needs to get the word out about its newest arrival, and KizashiKicks campaign might be just the ticket.
