Suzuki might be pulling out of the U.S. new vehicle market, but it continues forward as a viable competitor in other jurisdictions including Canada where it's SX4 remains a compact favourite.

As far as compact SUVs go, however, the Japanese brand's 4x4-capable Grand Vitara is a little long in the tooth and struggles against car-based crossovers that offer better handling and thriftier fuel economy. A new C-segment CUV set to debut at the Geneva auto show next month might be the remedy, and from this teaser image just released it appears attractive enough to woo buyers back to Suzuki's beleaguered dealerships.

The new production model is based on the S-Cross concept that was introduced at last fall's Paris motor show, says Suzuki, although a more conventional roof design replaces the prototype's odd but eye-catching pillarless greenhouse. Additionally, the production CUV's grille looks more akin to other Suzuki models than the concept's more rectangular design.

The new compact crossover will reportedly be front-wheel drive with an optional four-wheel drivetrain, the former allowing it to compete with Suzuki's more mainstream CUV rivals in initial price and at the pump. Customers that live in fouler climates will appreciate the crossover's all-weather driveline option, however, as a press release that joined the photo says the new crossover's "advanced 4WD technology, one of Suzuki's specialist fields, ensures excellent handling and driving enjoyment."

It should be a hit with families too, as it's claimed to have the highest volume cargo capacity in the compact class.

Suzuki's new compact crossover will be unveiled on the brand's Geneva auto show stand on the afternoon of March 5th.
