Who would have thought that Volkswagen's New Beetle would still be a hit nearly a decade after it took the automotive world by storm? But it remains a woman's car, in that most men don't want to be seen behind the wheel.

Maybe its plump curves are just too cute for the testosterone crowd or possibly the flower in the vase has something to do with it, but unlike Mini's Cooper, the retro-mobile from Volkswagen appeals to one sex only. The fact that it appeals so highly with women, however, is good news to VW.

TrueCar, a third-party analytical firm, recently released information from a survey that confirms the New Beetle remains the top pick for women. It's a combination of the car's aforementioned cuteness along with its relatively low price that makes it so appealing to women.

Rather than a street poll, TrueCar reviewed the registrations of more than 13 million vehicles purchased over the last two years and discovered that the remaining top-five most popular with women include the Nissan Rogue, Hyundai Tucson, Volkswagen Eos and Volvo S40, in order of preference.

Not a domestic, Toyota or Honda in the bunch? The competition has its work to do.
