[Professional Blog] The Toughest run yet!

Published on November 30, -1

I found this run to be my toughest run yet. I knew that it would be a bit hilly but in looking at the elevation graph (see it here http://runkeeper.com/user/GerryCarew/activities) from Runkeeper I was surprised to see how hilly it really was. I was climbing until almost the halfway mark. It's funny because my co-worker Sue Smallwood (an accomplished runner new to Twitter http://twitter.com/smallwos give her a follow) said I should do some hill training and she gave me really good advice about how to tackle the hills. She said to take shorter strides and really control your breathing. I did that and it seemed to help. That being said by the half way mark of my run I was really really tired. The other thing I noticed was the Temp. The sun was beating down on my back and it was the warmest day I have run on yet. I could not help but think about the challenge I have ahead especially if on Tely 10 day the temp and humidity are high. I have been at the finish line for 10 years and I know when the Temp is up it can be like a train wreck. This was all playing on my mind yesterday as I ran. I was also wondering why I agreed to do this but knowing that I had made this quest of mine so public is also quite a motivator. Knowing that the phone I hold in my hand is braodcasting in real time my progress to the world is a weird incentive. I hope it stays that way.

Interesting. I am doing close to 5K and find that tough enough. I wish you the best and admire your dedication as always.
