Surfing through some of the local hockey message boards today and came across a gem of a topic called a Day in the life of Ryan Clowe. Obviously spelling error aside, I was intrigued. As it turns out, RYANE was the focus of an NHL On the fly (Bell Expressvue channel 421 for those of you lucky folks with the centre ice package) documentary detailing a day in the life of the San Jose Sharks forward and Fermeuse native. Neat hey? (Eat your heart out Michael Ryder) Without spoiling too many of the surprises in store for those of you decided to check it out, the half hour piece follows the 26-year-old power-foward from the start of a day on the road in Columbus to the end of the game (complete with riveting post game reaction from Sharks coach Todd McLellan and Clowe himself). But its the little nuances that do what so many sports journalists fail at; exposing the person behind the sports celebrity. Clowe takes viewers through his game-day rituals which includes a hearty feed of pasta for lunch, followed by a two-hour nap, a small snack and then on to the rink. The bulking winger even has his own superstitions dating back to his junior hockey days. Before every game he coats half of his sticks blade with black spray paint. I probably just did it in junior to be cool, he affably admits to the crew following him. i notice that Clowe and Ryder are just a point apart in scoring on their respective teams . I'm also aware that these two players posess a high degree of talent even tho most of their overall points are the result of powerplay ice time . I don't know how to take your quote , Eat your heart out Michael Ryder , since Ryder has seven Game winners . How about giving the Guy his due .
