Dawn Chafe wins award for writing

Published on November 30, -1

Dawn Chafe, the Editor of Atlantic Business Magazine, has won a prestigious international award for editorial writing.

Chafe won the bronze award for "Please Don't Read This!," in the Editor's Column category of the Trade, Association and Business Publications International (TABPI) Awards.

"Winning a bronze award in such a prestigious international competition is almost surreal," said Chafe, in an email exchange. "I'm having a difficult time digesting it. But at the same time, I'm really very gratified by this external, objective recognition that a magazine published in St. John's is producing world-class content. I've thought that all along, of course, but I'm a little biased! Now we have the award to prove it."

Here is what the TABPI representatives said to Chafe, in the email they sent notifying her of the award notification:

"With more than 700 editorial and design entries from across the globe, your winning is certainly an impressive achievement, one that your whole publication should take pride in. Judges generally award a Gold, Silver and Bronze, and several Honorable Mentions in each category. (This year, in our four largest categories -- Best Single Issue; Feature Article; Front Cover, Photograph; and Opening Page or Spread -- we list the Top 25 entries. The 4th through 25th places are all considered Honorable Mentions.)"

This is what the judges had to say about Chafe's winning editorial: "This column makes an important point about women in business and the problems they still face -- despite the progress they've made."
