[Professional Blog] Media Watchers

No shortage of local media commentary

Published on November 30, -1

I am not the only blogger who writes about the local media scene far from it. Ed Hollett and Wallace McLean offer their own saucy brands of media analysis almost every day.

So today, whilst wrestling a client deadline into submission, I present a particularly funny bit of such commentary from Nadine, a Newfoundlander away whose blog title says it all: Missing the Rock'. She talks about the latest cover of The Newfoundland Herald, which features a picture of Stephen Harper, Danny Williams and what may be a strategically-placed phallic symbol. It leads one to ponder the question: who is really getting screwed here? And by whom... or what?

Yesterday, Wallace McLean took a dig at The Western Star headline writer for not paying attention, took the CBC to task for incorrect use of the word lobby' and offered his own take on the obvious juicing of the VOCM Question of the Day.

Meanwhile, over at Bond Papers, Ed Hollett points out a discrepancy between CBC and VOCM in their coverage of the same story.

I will close by circling back to The Herald, and offering this link to a post from Bob Hallett's excellent blog within the Great Big Sea web site. It was posted back in November, but contains a wickedly funny anecdote from Hallett's days as editor of The Herald (a job I once held, so I could feel his pain).

So why do so many bloggers write about the media? And why do so many of us like to read about it? For enlightenment, I go back to that old maxim, that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians love their politics.

Assuming this is so, the question becomes How do they hear about their politics?'

Through the media, of course.

Oh Wow Geoff, thanks for the mention!

Love your take on it, sad thing is, at the end of the day, we all know who is getting screwed.
