Deputy Mayor apologizes for "slanted" slight

Last week, I told you that Deputy Mayor Ron Ellsworth was about to clear the air perhaps even apologize for suggesting that Telegram reporter Tara Mullowney was "slanted" in some of her coverage.

Word was, he would read something into the record at last week's St. John's City Council meeting. However, nothing was said about it.

Well, Ellsworth has subsequently broken his silence. He apologizes to Mullowney through a letter to the editor that appeared in Saturday's Telegram.

"While I certainly disagree with some of the article's content, the use of the word slanted was inappropriate and I would like to offer Ms. Mullowney an apology," Ellsworth writes, adding that he will "try to choose my words a little more carefully in future debates."

You can read the full letter here.

The great thing about Ellsworth is that he apologizes when he messes up publicly.

The unfortunate thing, of course, is that he keeps needing to.
