[Professional Blog] New Role at Eastern Health

This blogger has learned that Jennifer Guy better known as Jennifer Davis to some has been appointed Vice President Communications, with Eastern Health.

The position is a new one, and is apparently reflective of the serious deficiencies around communication that were exposed during the Cameron inquiry. By elevating communications to VP status, Eastern Health increases the priority that it assigns to this critical function, while giving communications a significant voice at the executive level.

At least, that's my read of it. And I think it's a wise move.

I called Guy for comment. While she did confirm the appointment, she asked that I go through channels, by contacting the communications department at Eastern Health, for any further information. I did call and leave a message, requesting more detail around the appointment and an official biography of Jennifer Guy. UPDATE: I received an email from Diane Hart, Acting Director, Strategic Communications with Eastern Health, advising me that the appointment announcement will be published in Saturday's Telegram.

Guy was a prominent media personality in this province, working with CBC TV for about 20 years before moving to a career in public relations. She worked at St. Clare's Hospital and the General Hospital, before joining the Ontario Medical Association, where she served for seven years as executive director of public affairs and communications. Most recently, Davis spent five years working in international business development in the United Arab Emirates. She also serves on the MUN Board of Regents.

In unrelated human resource news, I hear that Ivan Morgan has joined the staff of the provincial New Democratic Party. Morgan is a former reporter with the now-defunct Independent weekly newspaper.
