Daly in as Nightline host; Holmes leaves Rogers TV

Published on November 30, -1

Krissy Holmes (left) has resigned from Rogers TV and Paddy Daly is set to become the new host of VOCM's Nightline. Both are former co-hosts of "Out of the Fog".

Paddy Daly is the new host of “Nightline”, a talk radio program that airs Monday to Thursday evenings on VOCM.

Daly will make his debut on Monday, August 30.

This was confirmed yesterday, in interviews with Daly and John Steele, of Steele Communications.

Meanwhile, this blogger has also learned that Krissy Holmes has resigned from her position as co-host and producer with “Out of the Fog”, effective immediately.

I have no further information on why Holmes left Rogers TV – she declined comment until next week – but can tell you that Holmes has partnered with Paddy Daly in the formation of a new television production company. More on that shortly.

Daly is also a former co-host of “Out of the Fog”. He left the show, claiming he was fired, in October of 2009.

Daly told me he has been negotiating with VOCM for some time about Nightline, a show that has been dormant since Ryan Cleary left more than a year ago.

“I had talks with VOCM about me taking on the show, and it has been decided for a couple of months now that I was going to do it,” Daly said. “It was certainly something that I had never stopped considering, when I was removed from Rogers TV. And I think it’s a great opportunity. (Nightline) has been popular for a long time, a lot of renowned people have had an opportunity to host that show, and I’m just anxious to get going.”

In an interview, John Steele said he is pleased that Daly is joining the VOCM on-air crew.

“Paddy had a great following on ‘Out of the Fog’. He comes with an audience. We thought he developed very nicely as a host, the whole time he was on ‘Out of the Fog’. I think he can develop Nightline to be a bit different from the way it was before, perhaps add a bit more variety into the shows – just a different style, and he would put his own mark on it – so we figured we’d go that way. I think he will resonate with the audience. We sure hope he will.”

Meanwhile, in the spring of this year, Paddy Daly and Krissy Holmes incorporated Good Lookin’ Productions. I invited them to comment at the time, but both declined. I mentioned it again yesterday, in my interview with Daly, but he had nothing of substance to report.

“We don’t have a whole lot to say about it right at this minute, but I think it’s safe to assume that we will have some answers… in the near future.”

However, I have subsequently learned that Good Lookin’ has already pitched at least one program idea to CBC. This was confirmed by the managing director’s office of CBC NL. The pitch is currently under consideration, and CBC has not made a decision at this point.

I have no idea what type of program was pitched, but, knowing the skill sets of the proponents, I would suggest it is a variety/current affairs program with an interview format, not unlike “Out of the Fog”. But that is pure speculation. One thing I do know is that Daly and Holmes have the talent to pull it off.

I await further developments with interest, and will keep you informed.

well where i come from if you didn't resign it means you were fired. No matter what the reason was, if you had a job one day and the next day you didn't you were fired.

From your blog can I correctly assume these people were part of a local Rogers Cable only access broadcast? Some of us are customers of alternate television service providers.

After this piece was posted, I was contacted by Paddy Daly, who pointed out an error. Daly was not "fired" from Out of the Fog. He was told, at the time, that he was let go for budgetary reasons. (I would amend the text, but the new web site architecture doesn't permit it - as far as I can tell.) Also, the excellent photo that appears here was taken by Karl Wells.

Cool, bet she will be missed by the folks at Rogers. Good luck to her and Paddy on whatever they are putting together.
