So Premier Williams is having another snarkfest, attacking Marystown Mayor Sam Synard for daring to raise concerns about an issue in his town.
Mayor Synard suggested that the province become more engaged in a major ship building competition with the Government of Canada, from which the Kiewit facility in Marystown is now on the short list.
There is no point getting into the “he said this, he said that” part of the story. Suffice to say, Synard said nothing one would not expect from a mayor, when there’s a billion dollar contract on the line. He said nothing to warrant this slam from Williams, who said Synard was “asinine”, “ignorant” and “didn’t count.”
Really, it is sounding like this is a premier with anger management issues.
I am not the only person who feels this way. Today, on VOCM Open Line, caller after caller criticized Williams for his outburst, and especially for his suggestion that Synard “didn’t count.”
“I want to remind the premier that Mr. Synard is from this province,” said one soft-spoken lady, “and every Newfoundlander counts.”
Another said teachers at his children’s school were working hard to keep bullying out of the classroom. “Yet, here we have a premier who behaves like a bully.”
Which brings me to the reason for today’s post. I would like to share with you a video that I received from one of my associates, a creative type who, for fairly obvious reasons, would like to remain anonymous.
This video is a parody – a clever recreation, actually – of the province’s recent anti-bullying campaign. Yeah, that’s right – an anti-bullying campaign from a province that’s being run by a bully. No contradiction there at all.
Click the link below. Enjoy.
And if I was Mayor Synard, I’d be doing an inventory right now of things that could make me go ‘ouch’.
Air ambulance? Nope.
Local hospital? Maybe.
New ship fabrication facilities? Hmmmmm…
