Ward 2 candidate, Jonathan Galgay, is calling on the city to impose an immediate hiring freeze for all senior management positions held with the city of St. John’s. Given there are just a few short months before the municipal election, hiring of said positions or any restructuring should not be hastily executed prior to the election of a new city council. Caution must be exercised to ensure fiscal accountability and the newly elected city council should be involved in such processes.
I recognize the importance of ensuring sound fiscal management. If elected to city council I will advocate for a thorough review on all positions which report to council.
In addition, Galgay is calling on the city to release a listing of all management positions which include detailed salaries and expenditures. City Council must ensure openness and transparency, and ensure resources are adequately spent and distributed. The citizens of St. John's deserve to know where their tax dollars are being spent.
The city has not released a detailed organizational structure of its divisions; therefore making it is merely impossible to identify reporting structures.
Residents deserve a fiscally responsible city where transparency and accountability are paramount.
