Ward 2 Candidate Jonathan Galgay has announced his first priority if elected to City Hall in September’s Municipal Election. “If elected I will ensure that within the first month in office I will introduce a motion to establish a Community Engagement Strategy for the City of St. John’s”.
This strategy would outline the cities obligation to engage residents on issues of public policy and development. “Council has a duty to consult with residents, and this will provide greater clarity on decision making, certainty on expectations, and adequate public engagement”.
I recognize the importance of involving residents in the development of policy, programs, and services. This is vital to the sustainability of our neighbourhoods and city. This strategy would focus on “protecting and promoting the best interests of residents”.
It is important to note that each situation demands its own approach and process. This strategy would be designed to ensure a framework is in place for residents and municipal leaders to follow as decisions are being made. This strategy would not only be developed by councillors and city staff, but would be inclusive of community groups, associations, and business leaders. We need to develop and lead issues of public policy which are reflective of local values and traditions.
I am determined to ignite a positive attitude and committed to lessen the burden on its residents. I believe that City Hall belongs to the people, and that each resident deserves the highest standard of service and commitment
