Promote Active Lifestyles
As a city we should be doing as much as we can to encourage active lifestyles. We can achieve this in several ways, like protecting our parks and open spaces to give people a place to go and be active or by providing more recreational activities throughout the city.
Protect Open Spaces
We need to protect the open spaces that we have within the city, like Bowring Park, and the T'Railway, for example, to ensure that they are there to enjoy for generations to come. These areas provide the space and facilities to accommodate a wide variety of events and activities, from concerts, festivals, and car shows, to hiking, playing with the kids, or walking the dog, these open spaces give us somewhere to go to relax and enjoy our free time.
Community Centres & Recreation Facilities
All residents of St. John's should have access to recreational facilities and community centres in their neighbourhoods. These promote an active lifestyle, and can bring the community together. We need to look at the distribution of these facilities to see if all areas of the city are being adequately served.
