Corner Brook mill to shut down paper machine for eight weeks

The No. 4 paper machine at Corner Brook Pulp and Paper will shut down for an eight-week period, from March 22 to May 17.
Kruger, the mill's Montreal-based parent company, confirmed the news for Transcontinental Media today after informing employees earlier in the day.
The move is part of the 25,000-tonne curtailment in production Kruger announced earlier this year. The eight-week shutdown will account for 13,000 tonnes of that reduction in Kruger's operations.
The shutdown will also mean the temporary layoff of 30 unionized workers in Corner Brook.
Kruger will also shut down the No. 2 and No. 7 machines at the Corner Brook mill for a 72-hour period following the restart of No. 4, which will account for another 2,000 tonnes of production taken out of the system.
