Low pressure problem traced to Windsor Lake

It now appears that a loss of water pressure through much of the east end was not the fault of a water main break, but instead the problem was in the Windsor Lake treatment plant itself.
Thousands of St. John's residents from Pennywell Road to Torbay Road woke to find low or no water pressure.
Public Works chief Paul Mackey said that crews were working to get the system back up and running, and things should be back to normal in a few hours.
It is unclear at this time exactly what the nature of the problem at Windsor Lake is.
One concern, he said, would be city crews bleeding air out of fire hydrants, and pouring water into already icy streets. Mackey said that city workers would be working closely with ice control crews.
The water issues have already delayed or cancelled the opening of several schools in the eastern part of the city.

Poor taxpayer II. I had water last summer, lots of it. You must be one of those fellows who has the sprinkler on during a rain fall or washing your 1999 Chev Cavalair every day. Problems occur, aged infrastructure breaks down. I've lived all across Canada (summer and winter) and St. John's services, including taxes is on par with similar cities / population.

Another major issue with the St. John's water system and Councillor Tom Hann is on the radio talking about what? Yes, he's talking about taking the search and rescue chopper from Gander again. Why does he have his head up his ar$e when it comes to dealing with issues he was elected to handle?

Hey Taxpayer, move to Mount Pearl, they pay less water tax than St. John's even though the water comes from the same 2 ponds for both cities.

Scotty....You don't need water to learn but you do need water in the toilets and sinks so that you can function as a facility. Do you want your kids exposed to filthy toilets to sit on and nowhere to wash their hands?

Some people need to think before they type.

Scotty, you are right, you dont need water to learn. However, in the event that a fire broke out at a learning institution and the sprinkler system was needed to put out the blaze to save a few kids lives, there would be no water pressure to allow the sprinklers to do their job. And every washroom in the schools would stink to the high hells when kids started using the washrooms and were unable to flush their waste away.

No Water in the summer, no water in the winter. Water tax going up. I just heard Mackey on the radio saying... we don't know what's going on, could be a break, could be a problem with the plant... basically situation normal, the city doesn't have a clue.

Come on Scotty, don't be ignorant - what are the kids who have to drop a deuce gonna do? With a student population in the hundreds it won't take the facilities long to back up. Not much learning going to take place if every kid is forced to hold it. I'm sure there would be things other than trigonometry and geography on their minds...

The only reason I come back each day to read the Telegram comments is for the entertainment value of the morons who complain about everything, no matter what it is. If the news is good such as Husky finding another 60 million barrels of oil, you complain. If the news is bad such as the water main break, you complain. What a sorry bunch of losers you pitiful whiners are. But I will say this about you; you are consistent in your dislike of life.

I read this comments and I can't believe some of them it almost makes me think mainlanders are writing them. I had to move around a lot both in Newfoundland and out and I have found that Newfoundlanders are quicker to smile and laugh, and to have understanding. The world is not perfect things happen, things break, problems occur, it takes time to figure things out. Are we in such an instant world that when something goes wrong the claws instantly come out. While people are complaining that schools are closed, and the inconvenience of it all. I'm sure that as soon as there was a problem people where sent out into the cold and wet trying to do their best to get things back up.

Taxpayer II if you didn't like the service or taxes in St. John's please relocate yourself out around the bay. Sure taxes are cheaper but you get what you pay for.

I am certainly thinking about moving outside the city again. I was happier with the tax and services while outside the city but to St. John's to be closer to work. Too many issues to deal with in here.
