The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has asked merchants and financial institutions to look out for $100 bills as it investigates an internal theft at the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) headquarters.
The theft of a quantity of cash in $100 Canadian bills occurred on Sunday, Dec. 13, from a property locker located at the RNC headquarters on Fort Townshend. The lockers are not in a publicly accessible area.
The OPP is seeking the public's assistance in the investigation and is asking that merchants and financial institutions be on the look out for any large purchases, payments or deposits with $100 Canadian bills, and report suspicious transactions.
Neither the RNC nor the OPP have said how much was taken in total, but a source has told The Telegram that $14,000 was taken. That amount has not been confirmed.
A tip line has been has been established. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Inspector Chris Nicholas of the OPP at 709-729-8600.
