The Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) today announced that the RIMS Newfoundland and Labrador chapter has been awarded a Membership SuperStar Award for its growth rate of more than nine per cent in 2009.
RIMS membership awards were initiated in 2008 to acknowledge chapters with exceptional annual growth rates.
RIMS Newfoundland and Labrador chapter will receive the honour at the awards luncheon during the RIMS 2010 Annual Conference and Exhibition in Boston April 26.
"This year's SuperStar and Star award winners deserve special recognition," Mary Roth, executive director of RIMS, said in a news release.
"Their membership growth, given the economic conditions of the past year, demonstrates that the chapters and their leaders are providing tremendous value. By offering opportunities for professional development and collegial networking, the chapters are helping their members succeed, even in these challenging financial times."
Marilyn Leonard, president of RIMS Newfoundland and Labrador chapter, said members' contributions led to the tremendous growth in membership numbers in 2009.
"The Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter of RIMS is elated to receive this prestigious award recognizing dedication to advancing the practice of risk management in the province," she said. "This year was a milestone year for the chapter as we hosted an extremely successful Canadian Risk Management Conference and practically doubled our numbers."
RIMS is the world's pre-eminent organization dedicated to advancing the practice of risk management. It is a not-for-profit organization representing more than 3,500 industrial, service, non-profit, charitable and government entities globally.
