Abbyshot Clothiers of Mount Pearl was awarded Canadian SME Innovator of the Year at the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters' (CME) annual Canadian Innovation Awards event Tuesday in Ottawa.
According to a news release, the Mount Pearl company designs, produces and markets screen accurate replica clothing, and sells its products around the globe through the company's website abbyshot.com.
"The winners of the Canadian Innovation Awards are models of excellence for others to emulate," says Howard Nash, chairman of CME's NL Division. "We live in a competitive world, but nothing gives Newfoundlanders and Labradorians a greater sense of pride when we take on the world and win."
Manufacturing employs over 14,000 people in Newfoundland and Labrador. The industry contributes $5 billion to the provincial economy annually.
"We are so proud of what we achieved as a team at Abbyshot," said company president Bonnie Cook in her acceptance speech in Ottawa.
Federal Industry Minister Tony Clement presented six awards at the event. They include:

Tim Hortons, Scarborough, ON - Business Takes Action's Canadian Innovation Award for Innovator of the Year; Standard Aero Limited, Winnipeg, MB - CAHRD's Canadian Innovation Award for Aboriginal Inclusion.
