There's not much ice in the Gulf of St. Lawrence or off the northeast coast of Newfoundland.
And that means this season could be a tough one for newborn seal pups.
Ice charts from the Canadian Ice Service show this has been one of the worst years on record for sea ice.
Female harp and hooded seals need ice at least 30 centimetres thick when they give birth.

It looks like there will be some natural population control this year.

How's about none this year. If you take more then you produce you have unbalance. Then again is that not what the fishery is all about anyway, taking more then you need.

I am sure this bit of info will bring out the seal hunt bashers and the climate change lobby. But realistically, I would expect this to mean a lower quota this year?

maybe those bleeding heart seal protesters will go out and scoop up those pretty seals and take them back to their bathtubs to rear them.

Slow Down Skippy from St. Johns, Newfoundland writes exactly in the same style as Nutty Nate. No wonder the similar stupidity of statements. (You really need to go back to grade 9 bro about that then/than thing).
