DFO reminds general public to avoid contact with seals

Due to ice conditions in harp seal whelping areas, seals are using shore-fast ice, beaches and other shoreline areas in the province for whelping, nursing their pups, and resting.
The public is advised that under the Fisheries Act, the Marine Mammal Regulations prohibit disturbing, moving, and interfering with these animals.
It should be noted that seals may leave their pups unattended for extended periods of time while they are feeding. This is normal behaviour and these pups should not be disturbed.
If you see seals being harassed, call your local DFO office.

The first two posts are extremely good points. Once again we see the double standards that exist in our society. There is no consistency in the application of law. In the breakdown of a civilization, law is the first victim.

I wouldn't go leaving no pups unattended around here. I got a bag of onions on the ready.
