The driver of a transport truck received only minor injuries this morning when his rig overturned on the west coast of the province after encountering icy roads and strong wind conditions.
The accident occurred about 9:30 a.m. about two kilometres south of St. Pauls.
RCMP from the Rocky Harbour detachment were called to the scene.
According to the RCMP, the driver lost control while going around a turn and the vehicle hit the shoulder of the road and the truck turned onto its side in the south-bound ditch.
The truck - a tanker which normally carries gas - was empty at the time of the collision and the huge fuel tanks did not rupture.
A tow company was contacted to remove the truck from the scene.
The Department of Transportation was updated and are presently dealing with the issue of ice on the roads in the area.
The Rocky Harbour RCMP would like to advise the public of the extremely strong winds throughout the coastal areas of the Northern Peninsula and sections of ice-covered roads that could pose hazardous driving conditions, especially for high-sided vehicles.
