The ship formerly known as the Atlantic Freighter has run aground in Port aux Basques.
It was unclear exactly what happened, but officials the Coast Guard Marine Traffic centre in St. John's said high winds appeared to be at fault.
The accident happened in the Port aux Basques harbour.
The boat used to belong to Marine Atlantic, but had been sold and renamed Pelagitis.
