Tens of thousands of people are without power in southern Alberta where winter has returned with a wallop.
Radio station CJOC is reporting that there's been no electricity for several hours in most of Lethbridge - a city of 90,000 - and that surrounding communities are without power as well.
The spring storm roared in with a vengeance late Tuesday afternoon with high winds and heavy wet snow, which continued to fall overnight.
Many people abandoned their vehicles this morning as they became bogged down in drifts as deep as 30 centimetres.
A major highway in the area has been shut down.
The storm, which appears to be moving into Saskatchewan, has raised concerns about flooding because warm temperatures by the weekend could cause the snow to melt quickly.
