Contract negotiations have resumed between Ocean Choice International and the union representing some 1,500 workers at the company's six processing plants in this province.
Ben Baker of the Fish, Food and Allied Workers' union confirmed today that both sides will hold talks in St. John's, with the help of a conciliator appointed by the labour relations board.
The union is now in a position to hold a strike vote, and Baker said that will not happen unless talks break down again.
Negotiations broke off on March 26, with the union accusing the company of trying to erode the collective agreement.
The union represents workers at OCI plants in Marystown, Port Union, Bonavista, Triton, Port au Choix and South Dildo.
The average plant worker earns roughly $12.50 per hour.

The sad part is that china can produce this product for less than the cost of CPP and EI that is payed by OCI.
