Premier Danny Williams  Telegram file photo

Danny Williams says he still likes being Canada's most popular premier, and wants a third term.
In fact the premier of Newfoundland and Labrador says he's already preparing for the election set for October 2011.
Questions were raised about Williams' intentions after some nasty public clashes with opposition members and doctors who are without a contract.
The premier is also recovering from heart surgery in February.

Good for Danny i hope he stays in office for many years to come. I don't care what the negitive people think or say. In my lifetime he's much better than any other who's been in office including old Joey, he sold us down the river. It don't matter there will always be people who will find flaws with whoever is in office.

don - You are stating untruths which you must know by now are erroneous.

If some of Canada's provinces had not had the full run of the natural resource base of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada would have been a much poorer country. And if Ottawa had not gotten control of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1949, which gave Canada control over the whole of the Northern part of North America to make it complete from East to West, Canada would have been a far different and less economical country than it became after the World's economies were set on fire after the Second World War. Canada obtained the province of Newfoundland and Labrador at a time when there were no liabilities in taking over a terriotry which was chock a block full of natural resources and a geographical location which could only be equalled by British Columbia's and that was a coup for Canada and it was very instrumental to Canada's well being. How dare you don to have said what you said.

The Natural Resource list below will give you some idea of how Canada benefitted.

For instance (i) FISH RESOURCE which it utilized for Global Trade (ii) HYDROELECTRIC ENERGY RESOURCE, which adds $2 Billion dollars annually to the province of Quebec's coffers (iii) MINERALS of all types which have kept Central Canada's Manufacturing Indutry in fine shape for many decades and have added Billions of dollars (iv) OIL which the Ottawa Treasuary has reaped Billions from, plus on the Refinery Side, it has kept 2 Maritime Provinces' Oil Refineries going.

You are the one don with a very short memory or no memory at all. Stop your nonsense and untruths.

BILLIONS OF DOLLARS FLOW TO OTHER PARTS OF CANADA ANNUALLY FROM THE PROVINCE OF NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR'S NATURAL RESOURCE BASE.

What, exactly, do all the Danny bashers want ? Do they miss Frank Moores, Brian Tobin, Brian Peckford ?
These people didn't care squat about NL. & Lab. and smacked their ar$es in our general direction when they left. Tobin, the consumate actor, played everyone for a fool and, when he left, he said he decided, 'in the glow of the Christmas tree lights, that it was time to turn the page '. More like time to turn yer guts. How about 'Cucumber' Peckford and 'Airbus' Moores ? We finally get someone who is the best Premier we've ever had, and there are people who want to crucify him. People who have their lights on but there's nobody home, obviously.

Harry: Did I strike a nerve? Let me tell you something that your brain obviously hasn't. The PC Party of NL has compiled a list of their accomplishments and posted it on their website. I will challenge you and your brain, or just your brain alone you decide lol, to pick JUST ONE THING from their list and give us a fact proving it to be false. Then you can mosey on over to Lorraine's site, or Yvonne's...again, you decide, and see if you can locate their list of accomplishments for Newfoundland and Labrador. - Pavement for Black Tickle doesn't count, lol, that stuff is to aid lobster fishermen in moving out unreported lobster catches. - What you will discover, if your brain is as useful as you claim it is, is that their list is non-existent. Once you've done that, if it still hasn't sunk in. Ask yourself where Grimes went or where Reid went. last I heard, they claimed to care a great deal about this province and if destruction and damnation is coming, like you'd have us believe, where in the heck are these guys with their dire warning? If you feel better thinking I work for government somewhere, go ahead and think that. lol, I really don't care, it'll only serves to further your own illusion and make your comments even more stupid as you argue with, and insult me in my role as representative of the NL government here on the Telegrams comment forum, hahaha. I might have an extra brain kicking around if you need to borrow one for a little while, yours obviously has a short somewhere, lol. One other thing, I don't care what Danny spends his pay on. If he went downtown and gambled it away every Friday night, I still wouldn't care, as long as he was back in the Premier's seat Monday morning, lol. Incidentally, it's not that hard to find out what the Williams foundation does, have a look, and tell us if you think it's worth it? I'll start you out with an article right here on the Telegram - http://www.thetelegram.com/index.cfm?sid=51885&sc=79 - That's from 2007, if you have something later, post away. If you have illegal activity you would like to report, post away. Above all else, though, say hi to Graham for me, and GOOD LUCK! lol.

Danny Williams is the best Premier Newfoundland has ever had.

It is so easy to tell who the Liberals and NDP supporters are on this comment list.
I would like to see these people that are making these nasty comments, run for Premier. I say..GOD help us...
Is there any wonder why the Liberals are so, so low in the polls? I rest my case.
Isn't it so very easy to criticize when you are not in the other persons' shoes? Talk is so cheap.
Let those run for Premier that are making those stupid comments. They would be singing a different chorus then.

Danny Williams has put Newfoundland on the map. And, he is not going to let people walk over him, and rightly so.

Way to go Danny...hope you will be our Premier for many years to come. And, someone in your present caucus will be the Premier after that. By that time, hopefully, the Churchill Falls project will be up and running.

People have extremely short memories when the Liberals were in power. There wasn't any money put into health care, education, and roads, so to speak..only pittens... So, when Danny was elected they had to fund money into those necessary areas.
And, the Liberals have never shut up about the conditions of some of the schools, over the years. Where were the Liberals when some of the schools were falling apart..re mold ..etc...
If there was ever an instance of the pot calling the kettle black, then here it is.

All we hear from the Liberal leader is down right criticism every time the voice is heard. Yvonne...show some GOD given courtesy, and praise for what our Premier has done, instead of all the negative comments you are making. Maybe, just maybe, people might show you a little respect...
I pray to GOD that the PC'S will be in power for many, many years to come...

    Go Danny Go!!!!

To Polly Pickford...you need to get a life...I pity your boring, sorry life. The first thing that you do in the morning is get on line to make some stupid, uneducated comment. There has to be something better in life! There is help out there for you bitter people. Why don't you run for office and then it would be a hoot to listen to stupid comments from you and Lorraine.

  • Harry Strong
    July 02, 2010 - 13:24

Bones I am convinced that you are either Danny Williams a relative of his or you work in his office. Your sole purpose in life is to bash and spew out your contempt for anyone that actually has the balls to call it like they see it with Danny Williams. I think you have made your case enough by now that Danny is better than Lorraine or Yvonne in your opinion therefore because he is better than them he is indeed God, or at the very least Saint Danny. It has puzzled me for a while as to where Danny gets this overwhelming popularity and what kind of person has helped elevate him to his throne on high. Then I read your daily rants on here and sit back and say ahhh there it is. Its the people that are easily impressed with money and power. Hes rich so he has to be good. Bones since you seem to well informed on all things Danny Williams can you enlighten us on The Williams Family Trust Fund. How much of his salary goes there, and how much has actually gone out to help people. There is no accountability there either. After all Bones its our tax dollars that pay him.YES he is paid. I think its great that he dosent need the money WE PAY HIM, but I would like to know who if anyone is being helped by this alleged trust fund administered by his x-wife and some other family member. Hell even Revenue Canada would like some information on that one. Then again thats just another example of something Danny feels we dont need to know. Another cover up another little way of getting people who are easily impressed by money to bow down and worship him. Although I think it wont happen in my life time and Lorraine or Yvonne will ever be premier of this great province I would choose either one of them on honesty and integrity alone. Oh Craig very intelligent comment my friend. Anyone who dosent kiss Dannys backside is on welfare. Oh well typical of the cult. Hurl insults at everyone, throw your little temper tantrums and attack attack. If nothing else its a great diversion from the real issues that need to be talked about. Based on some of the comments I suppose that because I happen to own a couple of successfull business adventures I have to be a follower of Danny. I have money therefore I worship. Try this instead Bones and Craig. I HAVE A BRAIN THEREFORE I USE IT TO THINK FOR MYSELF. Unlike you gentlemen who let Danny do the thinking for you. Just looked out the window and my dog dug a big hole in the back yard and struck oil, well theres our next premier, my dog Charlie. Oops sorry Danny never discovered the oil he just happened to be Premier when the revenues started to flow in. Past Premiers of both PC and Liberal stripes set the stage for what Danny enjoys today. Yes he made some little changes here and there to put his own little mark on it all and that was a good thing, but to listen to him and the likes of Bones you would think the only reason this province still exists is because of Danny Williams. Dream on Bones. Lets re hash all this. Danny is better than Yvonne and Lorraine so hes a great Premier. Ok a step further, Harper is better than Iggie and Layton therefore he is a great Prime Minister. Bones is smarter that most people who dare to share a personal opinion on here about Danny Williams therefore Bones is always right. Now if thats not Danny Williams mentality at its best I dont know what is.

Danny Williams is just riding on the coat tails of the Federal Government that set us up with huge infusions of cash taken from the tax payers of the other Canadian Provinces. The Federal Government infused enough cash into Hibernia to make it work. Without the Federal Government and the taxpayers of Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador would have died on the vine long ago. As for popularity, a trained monkey can run a Province that has the Federal Government coffers filled with the tax money of the Canadian people to keep it afloat. We have a very short memory here. We suffered the excesses and abuses of ego, arrogance and incompetence under the boot of Joey Smallwood and his cronies for 23 long years and now we are going to give the Joey Smallwood clone another term or two or three more terms in office to continue with the abuses of ego, arrogance and incompetence. Unbelievable! Regrettably, with a population of only 500,000 people, 55% of whom have been deprived of a good education and material wealth, we have the few elites and the occasional populist here to run the show. Unless there is a bright new star out there somewhere to bring light to this oppressed place by replacing the Dark Lord, we are in for at least another 5 years of oppression, secrecy and abuse of power. Too bad for Newfoundland and Labrador.

The nasty people who normally stalk the comment page of VOCM and keep logging back in under other names, with the weather being poor, can't go throw rocks at the ducklings in the parks. At the present time there is no alternative inside or outside the government capable of leading this province. The only possibility maybe Paul Davis he is a very good speaker, knows good grammar so he sounds professional, trained to be cool in tough situations, has always handled the press very well, but needs more experience. Jerome unfortunately shot himself in the foot once too often. This latest thing with the Doctors is too much. (Tom Marshall too passive, Elizabeth Marshall, Harper stole.) Danny is smart enough that he shut up about ten days ago. He knows this is only a battle for him to lose, there will be no winner unless they settle with enough to keep the Doctors here. They only want parity with Atlantic. We're they only have province.

I'm glad to hear Danny is going to stay for another term, regardless of how many faults people may think he has, he definitely has the shortest list. I'll take a self made millionaire/Rhodes scholar over the rest of the sorry lot any day. Note to Danny - get Paul in the Cabinet let's see if he can do the missing move a Kenny Rogers know when to hold 'em. Know when to fold them. Know when to walk away and know when to run Google the lyrics to Gambler - words to live by...

Although it's doubtful this comment will make it past the moderator (as most seem to mysteriously disappear in the electronic aether), I feel the need to comment on this article .

I don't know about anyone else, but it seems fairly obvious to me that this is another news article (I use that lightly) that serves no other purpose than to drum up an opportunity for the regular forum trolls to scream about Danny Millions and beat on their rusty (and often dented) pots and pans.

Even the way the article is written is ridiculous. It's fairly obvious Danny Williams didn't just wake up one morning, call the Telegram, and say Hello, Telegram? This is Danny Williams. I just wanted to tell you that I enjoy being Canada's most popular and look forward to a third term!

I would assume that the reporter contacted the Premier and asked How do you feel about being polled as Canada's most popular Premier? Are you planning to return for a third term in office?

So the people who think that Danny Williams just said this out of the blue are pretty gullible, and the reporter that wrote this could probably make a career as a lawyer.

To the other don not from Newfoundland and Labrador: Were you born yesterday or what? The Federal Government owned the offshore jurisdiction and did not have to give Newfoundland ANY interest or involvement in its oil development at all! The Federal Government could have completely ignored Newfoundland and signed deals with oil companies to develop the oil resources and reaped all of the oil royalty revenue for Canada. What are you talking about? Newfoundland contributes next to nothing to the Gross National Product of Canada when you subtract the billions of dollars that have been pumped in here to keep this place afloat. When compared to other economies of scale, what Newfoundland contributes to Canada's GNP is a drop in the bucket! There are more trees harvested in BC in a month than are harvested in Newfoundland in a decade! There is more money paid into the economy by people buying shoes in the rest of Canada in a year than Newfoundland sends to Ottawa in taxes in a decade! Your rhetoric is unbelievable! Give it up man! If it wasn't for the Billions of tax payer dollars that have been shipped into Newfoundland by the rest of Canada, Newfoundland would have gone bankrupt again like it did in the 1930's!

Good to hear that the Premier is running again, hopefully he stays around for awhile!!

I respect what he is doing in this province, and in saying that i do not agree with every decision! There are going to be things done that everyone does not agree with, its the sign of a great leader to stick to his guns, no matter the consequences!

We need to be thinking and doing things more regionally...every community cannot have a hospital, school, air ambulance, etc. Things change over time...ie the building of roads and connection to towns, thus the services have to change. Might i remind you that Battle Harbour was once a thriving community with all the services needed at the time, but with the demise of the fishery that community eventually resettled. We have to look at services being situated regionally and all towns around it availing of them.

Keep up the good work premier. As one would say, you will never make mistakes if you do nothing. Keep pushing ahead...the whole province will be better for it!

Good for Danny i hope he stays in office for many years to come. I don't care what the negitive people think or say. In my lifetime he's much better than any other who's been in office including old Joey, he sold us down the river. It don't matter there will always be people who will find flaws with whoever is in office.

Above all else, though, say hi to Graham for me, and GOOD LUCK! lol.

  • Harry Strong
    July 01, 2010 - 20:09

Is this the sort of ridiculousness you would have us believe? Tell you something, Williams has the next TWO elections in the bag. All he needs to do is express interest in continuing. Lorraine is helpless, Yvonne is helpless. Resistance is futile. And the haters are looking so desperate these days, it's unimaginably laughable, lol.
