Workers represented by the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Private and Public Employees (NAPE) have voted in favour of a contract with the home support agency Caregivers.
The 600 workers contract includes a wage increase, a meal provision for extended shifts, a clothing provision and paid vacations, as well as a promise to finalize an agreement on health insurance benefits.
"This is a good start to addressing recruitment and retention in a growing industry where there is a shortage of support workers," says NAPE president Carol Furlong in a press release about the agreement.
"The bar has been lifted for the other 16 home support agencies who are also in bargaining with NAPE."
