OCI, FFAW reach tentative deal

Ocean Choice International (OCI) and the Fish, Food and Allied Workers' union have reached a tentative agreement.

Ben Baker, the union's chief negotiator, was unable to release any details until he contacted all the union's committees this morning.

He said the deal is subject to ratification from members.

That was confirmed by OCI CEO Martin Sullivan, who said Monday night the company would be available for comment today.

Workers at six seafood plants owned by OCI voted 93 per cent in favour of a strike last week, putting extra pressure on negotiations.

Outstanding issues included concessions on wages, overtime, holidays and vacation pay.

The plants are located in Bonavista, Dildo, Marystown, Port Union and Triton.
