Pension reform will be the dominant topic at a finance ministers meeting that begins today in Prince Edward Island.
The two-day meeting at a resort on PEI's north coast comes amid concern that a worriesome number of Canadians aren't saving enough for their retirement.
Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty is seeking support from the provinces for what he calls a "modest" and gradual increase in Canada Pension Plan payroll premiums.
He's also wants to make it easier for financial institutions to offer pension plans to self-employed Canadians and others not covered by corporate plans.
Ontario Finance Minister Dwight Duncan is thinking much along those lines.
And that is leading to speculation a federal provincial consensus may be in the works.
