Steve Marshall, a senior partner in Roebothan, McKay, Marshall, wants to reassure clients electronic files have been retrieved from his law firm's building which caught fire Friday night.
"Files are backed up both onsite and offsite, and those that are here in the office have been retrieved and preserved," Marshall said.
"We had file data backed up as recent as 5 p.m. Friday," he said. "The offsite data storage was backed up as recently as last week."
Much of the east side of the building collapsed, but the west side, which is separated by a fire break, sustained little structural damage said Supt. Randy Hammond of the St. John's Regional Fire Department.
The call came in just after 7 a.m., but the fire had likely been smoldering for some time as the building was full of smoke when fire crews arrived shortly after. The most recent reports from the scene say the roof and third floor on the east side of the building have collapsed and
"She's toast," Marshall said.
However, Marshall also said it will be business as usual once the firm decides where to relocate, and phone and computer systems are set up.
"We've been offered space in very, very close proximity to where we're located," he said.
Some of Newfoundland and Labrador's most well known lawyers and politicians worked at the law firm, at which the premier was once the most senior partner.

Well the best thing is that no one was hurt or worse killed...Well the building can be replaced. To Rebecca Rose Hope that breakwater is able to keep up the publishing work they are so well know for...Sorry to hear of the damage.
