A 45-year-old man died this morning in Deer Lake after two 1,000-pound bales of hay fell on him.
The Deer Lake RCMP say they were called to Holstein Farm Ltd. in the Goose Arm Road area about 7:12 a.m. today.
The victim, an employee of the farm, had been in the process of moving some hay bales using a bobcat and, at one point, got off the bobcat to cut some line when two hay bales fell off and landed on top of him.
Each hay bale weighs approximately 1,000 pounds.
A co-worker discovered the victim under the hay bales.
The provincial Occupational Health and Safety Unit is investigating the incident.
