Vulcan Minerals plans to do more exploration in the Bay St. George area this summer looking for natural gas. The company, which owns drilling rights for 250,000 acres in the area, is expanding on similar testing it's already done.
Vulcan president Patrick Laracy said the work planned for this summer is "nothing radically new or controversial" - the company has already done more than 300 kilometres of such tests.
Vulcan plans to cut 2.75 metre-wide trails, and lay down microphones. Every 100 metres, they will drill holes and set off small explosions, using the underground shockwave to measure the geology under the ground.
"It's one way of getting an idea of how big potentially the gas discovery is," Laracy said.
Vulcan has been doing work in the Bay St. George area since 1996.
Last year Vulcan drilled two wells and is testing the results.
Laracy said it would be "premature" to comment on the size of the potential deposit, but he said they think there's something there.
"The fact that we're willing to go spend the money to do the testing is evidence that we feel it's substantial," he said. "The whole purpose of conducting the testing program is to quantify what the potential reserve size is for the gas."
If it receives environmental approval, Vulcan will start work in July. Cutting the trails will take about six weeks, and actual testing is expected to take about a month.

Clearly these private investors and experts are putting millions of dollars into the venture because they nothing about the business and because they're a bunch of fools. If only they would listen to Roustabout who knows more about the business than they do!

Come on fellas...are you kidding me here!!! You guys have a gas show and your flippin it around calling it a discovery?? There are gas shows in a high percentage of wells drilled, its nothing new!! And what are your plans if you do discovery gas......throw it in Sobeys bags??? Theres no infastructure for gas here people!!!!
